The Center for Rice Husk Energy Technology (CRHET) is a newly established office at the CPU College of Agriculture, Resources and Environmental Sciences, that focuses on the utilization of rice husks as fuel. The Center obtained funding support from Rolex Awards for Enterprise 2008, particularly for the rice husk gas stove technology. The aim is to provide information on rice husk energy technologies developed by Engr. Alexis Belonio of Central Philippine University to various industries around the world especially in Asia.
With the increasing cost of conventional fuel and the need for environment-friendly technologies, rice husks is one of the alternative sources of biomass fuel. With the annual world supply of rice husk of 115 million metric tons, sufficient amount of heat can be produced to supplement the energy supply, especially in developing countries like the Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam.
Direct combustion of rice husks was traditionally practiced to induce heat energy for various thermal uses. However, the conversion of solid rice husk into gaseous fuel by gasification has becoming attractive both for domestic as well as industrial use.
For more information about the CRHET, kindly go through the web pages where the latest technologies developed can be obtained in writing. The free copies of the CRHET Technical Publication can be obtained by accomplishing the CRHET Adaptor’s Form 1 upon request. |
